Posted by: Cliff Eley The new ALJ for the western slope is Keith Mottram, who will start hearing cases this month after undergoing training in Denver and Colorado Springs. Keith was born in Madison, Wisconsin, but he and his parents moved to Grand Junction, Colorado before his first birthday.
He graduated from Grand Junction High School, and spent his freshman year of college in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado. He then transferred to Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where he majored in economics and minored in math. His original intention was to become a high school math teacher and football coach, but he became interested in law while at Colorado College.
After graduating from Colorado College in 1993 Keith worked for a bank for a year and then spent a year as a clerk at a Boulder plaintiff’s law firm, to determine whether he would like being a lawyer. Keith attended DePaul University College of Law, located in downtown Chicago. While there, he clerked for a workers’ compensation defense firm. After graduating in 1998, he passed the Illinois bar examination and became an associate at another workers’ compensation defense firm, where he prepared workers’ compensation cases and handled hearings.
Keith got married after law school graduation, and he and his wife, an elementary school teacher, eventually decided to look into moving to Colorado. Keith contacted John Sandberg, who had been a partner in the firm that Keith had clerked for in Illinois and was an attorney with Hall & Evans in Denver. That firm had an opening for a workers’ compensation associate, and Keith was hired. Keith passed the Colorado Bar exam and started work with Hall & Evans in the fall of 2000. In 2004, Pat Clisham left Hall & Evans to start a firm, and Keith went with her. In 2007 he accepted a position as an attorney with Travelers Insurance.
Keith and his wife have three children, ages 5, 3 and 17 months. They will be moving to Grand Junction this month. |
